We are thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of our groundbreaking British Sign Language (BSL) interpreting course, set to commence in January 2025. At Remark!, we believe in fostering a world where communication knows no boundaries, and our latest initiative is a testament to that commitment.
What makes our course different?
The course is led by Remark!, a Deaf-led organisation and our aim will be to deliver highly proficient interpreters.
We have several international experts who will deliver guest lectures.
The course will primarily be delivered through BSL.
COURSE TEACHERS
Andy van Niekerk, Annie O’Shea (PGCHE, RSLI, CAVA) and guest teachers, including Professor Vermeerbergen from KU Leuven University in Belgium, and Debra Russel, honorary president of the World Association for Sign Language Interpreters (WASLI).
ASSESSMENT AND INTERVIEW DAY
1-1 interviews will be available at Remark!. Alternatively these can be facilitated via ZOOM where necessary. Contact us now to book yours.
£115, non-refundable deposit is required to book a spot for the Interview. This is not returned in the event you are not offered a place on the course, but written feedback will be given.

ASSESSMENTS
The Signature Interpreting Diploma (see here for the full specification) is divided into two Parts, which are commonly viewed as a theoretical and practical part. Part 1 has 5 assessments and Part 2 has 12 assessments.
Part 1 Assessments
A 3,000-word essay or 30 minutes structured BSL.
A business plan that outlines how you will manage your interpreting.
A glossary within a specific domain of your choice e.g., legal.
4 preparations for interpreting assignments. These should 2,000 words or 20 minutes structured BSL.
A professional development plan that has SMART goals and covers a minimum period of 6 months.
Part 2 Assessments
Assessments 1 - 6 are internally assessed. These are video recorded and must be at least 15 minutes in duration, and includes both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. Assessments 3 - 6 also require a critical analysis of 2,000 words each.
Assessments 7 - 12 are externally assessed.
Assessments 7 - 9 cover simultaneous and consecutive interpreting.
Assessment 10 is a remote assessment.
Assessments 11 and 12 are translations from an English text to BSL and from BSL to written English respectively.
