Summary
Suited for these that have participated in the original ‘Introduction to International Signing’ workshop, or for these who have some experience in working in international settings but want to develop their skills.
This workshop will further the participant’s use of visual language strategies and will introduce a better understanding of International Sign (IS) to convey dialogue using visual and globally recognised signs and gestures that can work across
a broad spectrum of world cultures.
Participants will be challenged by the use of a large variety of IS styles in tasks that reflect real life situations. There will be emphasis on roleplay scenarios, interpreting tasks and translation work using materials from international deaf organisations and news mediums.
Learning Objectives
Use a range of strategies in International Sign and avoid cultural barriers.
Be able to judge and know when to use a range of signed definitions appropriately.
Expand vocabulary and strategies communicating on a range of more complex topics such as social, health, education, work and politics.
Achieve new standards in conversation, production and receptive skills, with both their own signed language as well as in International Sign.
Participants will have the confidence to start working in everyday international settings.
