Pride Month 2021 – Celebrating Pride

Pride month (June 1st – 30th) is about acceptance, equality, celebrating the work of LGBTQ+ people, education in LGBTQ+ history and raising awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community.

Pride started with the Stonewall Riots in 1969, New York, America. The first Pride parade was in London,1972. Only 2,000 people attended, however, now over a million people attend every year! Pride aims to use positivity to challenge discrimination and violence towards LGBTQ+ people. The Pride parade continues to provide a platform for LGBTQ+ communities, celebrating its achievements, progress and the work that still needs to be done.

During Pride Month, we created a compilation of our #Pride glossary in BSL and some in Gay Sign Variation (IGSV). GSV was created by the Deaf #LGBTQ community, they now have their own lexicon!

Please enjoy practising the new signs you have learnt and feel free to share them with your family and friends!

We offer BSL Level Training from Level 1-6, a Free BSL Taster session (our next one is the 28th July!) and Deaf Awareness training for companies. To find out more about our BSL courses and workshops, email training@remark.uk.com or give us a call on 0207 269 2620

Happy Pride!
