Deaf Awareness Training Course

Deaf Awareness

Deaf Awareness Training is one of our most popular workshops. We deliver fun, interactive bespoke Deaf Awareness Training days to both corporate and social clients.

Our Training can not only bridge the gap and fuel effective communication with Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals, but we can ensure you meet all requirements as outlined by the Equality Act 2010.

At Remark!, we pride ourselves on offering workshops to suit your specific learning needs. Therefore, we aim for you, the client, to inform us what areas you would like to cover.

The workshop will cover many aspects of deafness, how to cope with communication difficulties and incorporates a basic level of BSL signs. We cover the following ‘core’ topics:

  • Deaf Culture
  • Lip-reading (incorporate a brief game)
  • Getting the attention of a Deaf person
  • Rules for Effective Communication
  • Back up methods of communication

The Training is led by you. Perhaps you have a Deaf employee and want to improve the team’s communication, or have a public-facing role with Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals, whatever the reason for this Training we ensure we meet your objectives in an authentic, enriched learning environment.

Introduction to BSL

Our Introduction to British Sign Language workshops are equally as popular with corporate and social organisations who work with Deaf and hard of hearing people.

Our Training can not only bridge the gap and fuel effective communication with Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals, but we can ensure you meet all requirements as outlined by the Equality Act 2010.

This workshop will brief delegates on Deaf culture before delving into a fun and interactive workshop learning the skill of British Sign Language, which has it's own grammar, idioms and sentence structure. We cover the following:

  • What is BSL?
  • The difference between makaton and BSL
  • Deaf Culture
  • BSL & Fingerspelling
  • Lipreading

Delegates will learn how to fingerspell, say their name and with a full-day session we give your delegates the tools to sign basic greetings such as "Hello, how are you?", "What are you doing this weekend?", and work-related phrases such as "Have you met your targets?".

Remark! has years of experience in delivering these workshops in various settings such as health services, law firms, the entertainment industry, and more. We tailor our workshops to suit your needs.

"We had a wonderful experience taking an extended BSL level 1 course taught by Remark! at Google's London offices. I was particularly impressed with our tutor, Lorraine, her enthusiasm and experience made learning BSL even more fun than it would otherwise have been".
