Subtitles are captions displayed at the bottom of a screen that represents the dialogue, or other audio, in a programme. Normally they are backed by a semi-opaque black box.
They can also be used to translate BSL so that all audiences can access what is being said by a BSL presenter.
Adding subtitles means that those with a hearing loss can follow the content of a programme. Normally they are suitable for individuals who have lost their hearing after they have acquired language skills.
