How to… translate your written text into BSL

Translation is a complex business, luckily we’re on hand to make it very simple indeed!

There are lots of complexities within BSL that take BSL experts to know about.

We are perfectly placed to advise on what needs translating and equally what doesn’t. We would never tell our clients to translate all of their material if it wasn’t needed.  Honestly we’d rather they did one piece of information that would be used than translate everything but to have it never used by the BSL community. We hope that this trust will lead to a long and happy partnership and that once clients have seen the success of one translation project they’ll consider doing another.

The nitty gritty of translating a document is similar to translating a website but with a bit more involvement from you. We could ask you to click on that guide but in the interest of making things easier for you (again one of our company’s ethos) you’ll find it below!

What you do:

1. Contact us and send us your text to look at
2. Confirm your presenter choice and the look of your translation
3. Answer a few very simple questions – would you like a menu system on
         the DVD? Is there a particular colour and/or logo you would like to
         use?   
4. Receive the final translation.

What we do:

1. Help you decide which parts of your information would benefit from
         translation 
2. Provide you with a quotation
3. Confirm your choice of presenter and their choice of clothing
4. Prepare for filming – format text, make sure the presenter and BSL
         monitor have this text for preparation time
5. Film the translation in the broadcast studio – we have specialist lighting
         and equipment set up for this. Our lighting set up took us 6 months to
         fine tune
6. Capture and edit the footage
7. Check with you what colour background you would like and if there is a
         company logo
8. Ask you the smaller questions such as would you like a menu chapter
         system?
9. Follow these instructions
10. Quality Check the footage
11. Export it to your specifications
12. Check it again!
13. Deliver it to you.
