Welcome Gavin!

Remark! would like to wish a warm welcome to Gavin Lilley, our new Training Tutor.

Gavin is a native BSL user having grown up in a Deaf family; he has an unwavering passion for Sign Languages and teaching which he discovered during his first job as a Project Officer at the University of Central Lancashire. In this role, he was involved in developing a key BSL curriculum for Higher Education and began work as a BSL/International Sign Lecturer.  After a brief post as an Employment Adviser with Dering Employment Ltd, he started at the University of Sussex as a research assistant, working on the development of two European-funded Deaf Studies and Sign Language interpreting projects. Throughout this time, he also taught BSL Levels 2 and 3 at Sussex Downs College in Eastbourne and is a qualified Assessor for NVQ Levels 3 and 6 in BSL.

Gavin is fluent in Finnish Sign Language, written Finnish, International Signs and has some experience with American, German and a handful of other Sign Languages. He still thirsts for more. His goal is to raise the standard and profile of all signed languages and encourage as many people as possible to learn this beautiful language and to release them from the constraints of spoken English!
