21st December 2011
On Friday 9th December Remark! Midlands were invited to Ninestiles School, Birmingham, to host an hour long BSL workshop. With 30 schoolchildren aged from 11-16 years our tutor had their hands full!
The children were not complete novices, having already received some basic training including food/drink, finger-spelling, numbers, and animals. They were now interested in expanding their skills and learning more conversational phrases.
Remark! focussed on everyday questions, for example, ‘How are you?’, ‘How old are you?’, ‘Where do you live?’, ‘Do you have any brothers or sisters?’, and the basic responses. The session was enjoyable and informative, the priority was for the children to have fun – alongside a bit of learning!
“A huge thank your time on Friday. The students were incredibly impressed and felt that they learnt such a great deal - as did we. They did not stop speaking about [Remark!] once you left and agreed that it was hugely helpful.”
