Remark! Production are proud to present the new series of The Hub – a groundbreaking news and current affairs programme made for the Sign Language Community.
Last year’s series covered issues such as the potential of VRS; the closure of Deaf schools; the effect funding cuts are having on the future of Deaf clubs; the devastating impact of the Japanese earthquake on the Deaf community; the protests against the Italian government’s attempts to replace Italian sign language (LIS) with LMG; and interviewed some of the last Deaf survivors of the Kindertransport that brought German Jewish children to safety in Britain. The series proved to be such a hit that two more series have been confirmed for your viewing pleasure!
The trademark duo, Gavin Lilley and Elizabeth Bojas, will be returning to a stunning new location in Central London, to present a revamped second series.
The first programme, set to air Monday 6th February, will be investigating the meaning of Deafhood – a popular concept abroad, but little known about in the UK – why? Do you know what Deafhood means? The Hub team will be exploring a dire situation in Denmark – the Danish National Health Board have introduced guidelines that people view as a real threat to the future existence of Danish sign language. What are these guidelines? Could something similar happen to the UK Deaf community in the future? Finally, we will be reporting on the campaign to save a Scottish wildlife park which is the only Zoo in Europe to offer sign language tours.
A great start to what promises to be a fantastic year of The Hub in 2012!
