Family Sign Language video a YouTube hit

A YouTube video showing a mum and her two-year-old Deaf daughter having a dinnertime conversation in British Sign Language (BSL) has become an internet sensation.

The heart-warming signing conversation featuring daughter Ava signing with her Mum, Lilli Risner, has captured the imagination of YouTube viewers with more than 1 million hits in the past week.

Ava's father, Nick Beese, filmed the video in support of a new National Deaf Children's Society’s (NDCS) ’Sign Up!’ campaign that seeks to ensure access to family sign language.

Ava's Deaf parents posted a brief statement on a YouTube page, saying they have been able to communicate with their daughter since she was born, and that hearing parents should be given the chance to learn sign language so they too can communicate with their Deaf children.
