Solihull Lunch Club Launch

Remark! Community have recently launched their third Lunch Club in Solihull.

After the success of the lunch clubs in Beckenham and Greenwich the aim was to spread our wings and develop further.  The lunch club was officially launched just before Christmas at the Solihull Methodist Church, and will be open fortnightly from January 2012 onwards.

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Irene Chamberlain, formally opened the club alongside Remark! Director Mark Nelson.  The Mayor expressed her surprise at the lack of clubs for Deaf people around the Solihull area, and her pleasure that a regular club is now available.

“Robert and I were very pleased to attend the opening of the Remark Community Charity's Over 55 Deaf Club, the first deaf club to open in Solihull.  It was a great privilege to share this time with members and to meet Mark, Jonathan and everyone else involved.  Meeting everyone made me realise how isolated you can be when you are deaf so this club will provide a vital service enabling deaf people to get together and enjoy social activities and make new friends, gain information and support through its advocacy advice service,  Remark! Community is a Deaf Charity set up to support the Deaf Community, the aim is to reduce isolation and give independence to the Deaf Community and will be a great asset to residents in Solihull,   We wish you all every success”

"I am delighted Remark! have set up a new lunch club in the Midlands area.  We believe we should reinvest the profits we make back into the community.  As we have an office in Birmingham I feel we ought to set up some community projects in the Birmingham area.  I wish this new group every success for the future"
Mark Nelson, Remark! Director

"Solihull has been quiet for many years.  The only decent club in the area is in Walsall.  I am pleased to finally have something locally to attend"

Remark! Regional Coordinator Carolyn Nabarro will manage the Solihull lunch club, whilst working with the Remark! Community team on potential plans for a fourth lunch club in central Birmingham!
